Helping you live within your favourite TV shows and movies.

Hello Wisconsin...

So last week there was a poll asking what the next post should be, and you guys chose That 70s Show!  This is actually the one I wanted to do anyways, so that really worked out.  Thanks!

Can I start off by saying how sad I am that this show ended?  I have all 8 seasons on DVD and I watch them religiously.  I'm not kidding.. I may or may not have dressed up as Donna Pinciotti for Halloween last year.
Also, a little dose of reality for a second (sorry).. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are engaged!  Real-life Jackie & Kelso??  I love it.   Poor Fez

The 70s have always been in style.  Ignore anyone who says otherwise.

Steven Hyde's (Basement Storage) Room

I'm referring to the time that Jackie redecorated Hyde's room.  Floral pattern is extremely popular now (see previous comment about how awesome the 70s were), and I actually love this comforter.  I found this beautiful set on Amazon for a very good price: Isabella Floral Cotton Comforter Set, and this awesome Plush Heart Pillow on Etsy.

Foreman's Basement

Well of course I had to do something from here!  But actually, I'm doing a couple because of how iconic this grubby basement is.

First we have the orange stool that Hyde is so casually relaxing on.  A very similar one is for sale on Etsy: Bright Orange Stool

Second we have Giant Spool table.  How awesome is that?! (Also check out ebay for actual Spool Coffee Tables).

(cont'd)

Third we have the vintage Rotary Dial telephone.  I don't know if everyone still has a landline, but I recommend just having one in your house anyways because they look super cool.

And because I know everyone wants one...

For your viewing pleasure.  Please proceed to rock out.

It's JESS...

Zooey Deschanel.  Love her!  She's the ultimate girl next door; quirky and attractive.  No doubt about it.  She always tends to play the same type of character, but I'm not complaining.  This week we'll be looking at her character from New GirlJessica Day.

Her style can be summed up in one interaction between her and one of her roommates:

Schmidt: "If you don't behave, I'll reinstate the ban on high-waisted shorts.
Jess: "That was the worst four weeks of my life!"

On that note..

          Jessica Day's Nautical Dress

How adorable is she?!  Here's Zooey with her stunt double, wearing a fabulous nautical-esque dress.  I feel like everyone should visit Modcloth as much as I do, because apparently that's where everyone on TV gets their clothes!  Here's their Erynn's Flair for the Classics dress.  Spot on!

Nailed it.

                        Jess's Valentine's Day Pyjamas

I don't know anyone who doesn't love a good pair of cotton pyjamas.  Jess seems to have great taste because she's wearing Victoria's Secret Iconic Pink Stripe ones.  High five to that.

She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny red polka dot bikini!

                 Red Polka Dot Bikini

With summer just around the corner, (come on spring!), I thought it fitting to include one of Jess's adorable swimsuits.  I know I'm not the only one that buys new ones each year.  Again, Modcloth to the rescue- check out their Beach Blanket Bingo two-piece.

To complete the look...

You need the Bunny iPhone Case

Enjoy the full-length 'New Girl' Intro Song performed by Zooey Deschanel.

Wait for it...

How I Met Your Mother is in its 9th and final season *tear*, and it's one of those shows that I could never get tired of watching.  I'm sure my friends are tired of hearing me quote the show even though it is Legen-wait for it-dary.  Legendary.  (yep.. did it)

H.I.M.Y.M. kind of pulled a 'Friends'.. and had multiple people live in one apartment.  Ted & Marshall then Ted, Marshall, & Lily then Ted then Ted & Robin then Ted then Ted & Robin then Marshall & Lily.  Still with me? Good.  Barney just does his own thing.

No matter where they moved, certain furniture pieces always stayed in the spotlight.  I could make a whole blog about everything in all of the apartments... No, no I can't.  Self control.

       Lily & Marshall's Yellow Couch

How awesome is this couch?  I'm not a fan of yellow.. but Marshall & Lily make it work.  A mustard couch is not an easy find .. but La-Z-Boy has their Laurel Sofa which is almost identical.

          Ted's Red Chair

I love colour-blocking furniture.  And i figure that in Ted & Marshall's apartment, it wasn't intentional.  But these chairs are so comfy and I love the colour.  Ikea has the Ektorp Tullsta Armchair.  What a great name.

     Marshall & Lily's Purple Carpet

It's something that doesn't really catch your eye while you're watching, but it really ties the room together.  Don't lie, you notice the miniscule stuff too.  Ikea's Almsted Rug is beautiful.  So Lily.

And always remember...

Mad Women

If you don't know, Mad Men is a television series set in the 1960s.  It's received awards and critical acclaim for many things, including historical authenticity and costume design.

I'd say one of the most captivating things of the show is the fashion.  Maybe that sounds ridiculous, but if you've seen the show you know what I'm talking about.
(Not to mention the gorgeous Christina Hendricks.)

All of the dresses from today's post are brought to you by Mod Cloth.  The fashion of the 60s is undeniably gorgeous- and Mod Cloth is a great place to find everything retro.
So here are Joan, Betty, and Peggy of Mad Men- and how to channel their beautiful characters!

                             Joan Holloway
Christina Hendricks is clearly vivacious.  And a redhead. The clothes her character wears on Mad Men do nothing but accentuate that.  (Her curves, not her hair.)  This beautiful Sleek It Out dress gives off a great Joan-esque vibe.  Classy & sultry.

                                    Betty Draper
January Jones is a beautiful blonde- and her character is often compared to Grace Kelly.  Being the housewife of the infamous Don Draper, appearances are everything.  So to keep with her classic floral look, I suggest the Get What You Dessert dress.

                                    Peggy Olson
Elisabeth Moss is definitely made into a plain-Jane for Mad Men.  Her character Peggy isn't too fashion forward- but like I said, with 60s fashion you can do no wrong.  I love Peggy's simplistic looks that could be worn casually today.  To get this look, check out the Vintage Dancer dress.

I'll just leave this here...

Everywhere you look

Accompanied with one of the catchiest theme songs to date, Full House epitomizes the 90s.  It's where the world first learned of Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, and John Stamos. (or as the world knows him: Uncle Jesse. hubba hubba)

The 90s are clearly coming back in style.  The other day I heard the style referred to as 'vintage'-  that stung a little.  So as per request, I'll be taking you back in time to one of the greatest shows ever aired.  (no bias)

The Patterned Couch/Chair Combo
Plaid furniture.  Is there anything better?
For a somewhat updated version, Ikea has the Ektorp Sofa.

To get the matching chair, just like the Full House living room,
Ikea has the Ektorp Tullsta Armchair as well.

DJ's Fluffy Floral Chair
Personally, I don't think floral really ever goes out of style.  Certain floral prints are certainly dated, but they're also very versatile.  (Strangely enough).
Ebay has a very 90s Overstuffed Lounge Arm Chair with the matching ottoman.  I have to admit; I kinda sorta love it.

Stephanie's White Rocking Chair
I don't know why rocking chairs ever went away.  They're fantastic.
And I loved mine that  had a similar full length cushion that tied around the back.
The one in Stephanie's room is a youth-size one, but Sears has an identical adult-size Rocking Chair.

Fun Fact...

Remember the Painted Ladies in the opening credits?
The actual Full House house used is just a block away.

Never 2 Broke

I finally started watching 2 Broke Girls, and I'm hooked.  Being a student, sadly I can relate. Caroline and Max are hilarious, and they're that quintessential pair of friends that you always see on sitcoms.  But it works.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well, this week I'm going to switch it up a bit.  Instead of doing a room, I'm doing outfits!  It would be super fun to do Max & Caroline's apartment.. so maybe I'll come back to that in a later post.

Here's to those of us who sometimes get inspired by their favourite characters.  Happy shopping!

                                                                                Caroline's Necklace
I. Love. This. Necklace.  Who wouldn't?  Well Stella & Dot has the Daphne Pearl Necklace that is the same idea with a little more of a vintage inspiration.  Stella & Dot is a very classic style, and I highly suggest checking out the rest of their collections.

                   Max's Shirt & Belt
Ahhh the denim shirt.  When paired with a belt, the laid-back shirt becomes a little more dressed up- even if you choose to wear it with tights or (don't judge me) Canadian Tuxedo style.  H&M has a great denim shirt, and Dynamite has plenty of think belts that could be very versatile.   It would even look cute to wear two thinner belts with it.

          Caroline's Simple White Dress
A great dress to have for spring/summer is a simple white one.  Pair it with a thin belt and simple heels like Caroline does.  I swear by online shopping, and Charlotte Russe has plenty of items to choose from. (Note: they always have deals on shipping.)

                                          Oh and one more thing..

'Max's Homemade Cupcakes' T-Shirt

I'll be there for youuu

I hope everyone remembers Monica Geller's apartment from FRIENDS.  You know, the unbelievably large lilac-coloured one with green doors?  Well ever since I saw the show for the first time, I've had an obsession with it.

If you've always wanted it too (I can't be the only one), then here are the 'Monica must-haves', for very reasonable prices.

The Colour
You can't have a 'Monica' apartment without the 'Monica' colour.  Or as Dulux likes to call it, Pure Orchid. (no kidding)

The Couch
Having a white couch is a great way to tie a room together; especially an eclectic collection of furntiure like this.  The Karlstad Sofa modernizes the look a bit, but it still very similar to Monica's.

The Artwork
The artwork above Monica's TV certainly stands out in the apartment.  The 'Aux Buttes Chaumont' can actually be found on ebay.ca.  You can choose which size you want the print in and the price just varies!
Great find.

The Kitchen Chairs
Before it was a 'new fad', it was classic Monica. Mismatched dining chairs look awesome, enough said.  There's a great Antique Mahogany Chair that I found on Kijiji for an insanely good price.

Flea markets and thrift stores are smart ways to find them if you want to stay in your immediate area.  There's a flea market in St. Catharines every Sunday, or check out the Salvation Army or Goodwill store.

Last but surely not least...

The Picture Frame
One word: Amazon.  The Picture Frame sold on amazon.com is a replica of the one on the back of Monica's door.  I just ordered one, so you probably should too.  You can't go wrong with the price.

Hello, all.

I don't know about you, but I have a real issue with separating television and movies from real life. Also an issue with shopping.  And thank goodness I've thought of something that involves both of those things (with help from my dear brother Todd).

Things that happen on a daily basis can be easily compared to your favourite TV show or movie.  Quotes, issues that the characters deal with and how they handle said issues, or people you know that resemble the characters.

If you don't have that friend that's always comparing life and TV, then you're that friend.  Don't worry.. it’s me too.

I'm also the type that can re-watch seasons of shows, or my favourite movies, thousands of times- to the point of quoting them.  And so much so that you become engulfed in their lives- having an opinion on their outfit when they come on screen, or shouting ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!’ when they do something opposite of how you would do it.  I’m not ashamed to admit that my boyfriend and I have had stupid little arguments because we take sides between characters.

But if i love it, I love it.  I can't help it.

So in this blog, I'm going to help fellow television and movie addicts (this is a safe space), to bring your favourites to life.  Idolize Zooey Deschanel's character from New Girl?  Her style?  Her room?  How about Courtney Cox's iconic character Monica Gellar?  Always dreamed of having a lilac coloured apartment with mismatched furniture?   I can help you.

From their style to decor, love the characters even more.
